Susan has been working in clay for around 7 or 8 years. Her concentration has been on slab built, hand carved pieces. In her college days, Susan fell in love with ceramics and majored in sculpture for her BFA. Taking a 30 year break from clay work to focus of painting, the longing to work in clay returned when she moved to the Northwest and started taking ceramic classes. Her studio accommodates both painting and ceramics now. The two mediums inform each other.
